Electricity consumers can check their meter number either online or through the use of codes. However, each meter type has a code that can be used to check the meter number. There are numerous reasons why electricity consumers should know their meter number. Some of the reasons are:

  • The meter number serves as a unique  identifier for your meter
  • It is used to track energy consumption
  • The meter number is also important for billing and maintenance of the meter.
  • The meter number also helps to ensure accuracy in billing because the meter number is normally cross-referenced with your account details during billing. 

How to Check my Electricity Meter Number Online

One of the ways to check an electricity meter number is through online. To check it using this method, follow the simple steps below:

  • Visit your distribution company’s official website.
  • Sign in with your details if you already have an account; if not, create one with your details.
  • Once logged in, go to your dashboard and look for the ‘’Meter Information’’ or related caption. 
  • Within the meter information section, you will be able to see your meter number and other related details, such as service address, account, and billing information. 
  • Once you find the number, you can decide whether to write down or save it on your device, depending on which one is more suitable for you. And that’s all. 

How to Check Electricity Meter Number using a Code

The easiest way to check an electricity meter number is through the use of a code. Although there is a general code for checking meter numbers, this code may not work for all the meter types; hence, we are going to outline the general code and also enumerate specific codes for each meter. 

The general code for checking an electricity meter number is ‘’65’’. To use the code, do this:

  • Dial ‘’65’’ on your user interface unit keypad and click on the ‘’enter’’ tab
  • Once you click on this tab, you will be able to see your electricity meter number

Meanwhile, as we noted earlier, this may not work for all the meters. Hence, if this code doesn’t work in your meter, then you will need to check the unique code for each meter, as enumerated below:

  • For Mojec meters (450 & 457), dial ‘’100’’ on your CIU and click on the ‘’enter’’ button.
  • For Conlog (041 & 042), dial #4# on your customer interface unit (CIU).
  • For Mojec meter (021), dial ‘’10’’ and click on the ‘’enter” button.
  • For hexing meters (142 & 140), dial ‘’804’’ and tap on your ‘’enter’’ button.
  • For Momas (621), dial ‘’804’’ and tap on the ‘’enter’’ button.
  • For Landis and GYR (071 & 070), dial i025 and tap on the ‘’enter’’ tab.

Where can I find my electricity meter number?

There are two different places where you can see your electricity meter number. They are:

  • You can see your meter number on your electricity bill. You can see it in the electricity usage section of the bill.
  • Also, you can find your electricity meter number on the meter itself.

How many digits should my meter number be?

The meter number is usually 11 or 13. So, some meters have an 11-digit number, while others may have a 13-digit number.
