If you’ve been keen enough when buying an electricity token, you may have noticed that since August 2023, when you purchase a token, you normally receive three different sets of numbers that are 20 digits long. 

What happens is that the first two sets of 20-digit numbers are the KCT codes that are required for the meter upgrade, while the last set of numbers is your electricity token. The first set is called KCT1, while the second set is called KCT2.

However, if you have not purchased a token for your meter since August 2023, you won’t receive the code, but if you have since, you may have received the code. Meanwhile, if you haven’t received the code, try buying an electricity token for your meter. If, after buying, you still didn’t get the code,. Then you will need to generate it. 

If you’ve received three different sets of 20-digit codes recently, kindly follow the steps below to upgrade your IBEDC prepaid meter:

  • Connect your meter’s CIU to power source
  • Input the first set of the 20-digit code (KCT1) and tap on the ’Enter” button.
  • Then enter the second set of the 20-digit code (KCT1) and click on the ’Enter” button.
  • Now, input the last set of the 20-digit number, which is your token and tap on ‘’Enter.’’
  • If you input these numbers correctly and follow the steps above, you have successfully upgraded your prepaid meter. As simple as that. 

N/B:

  1. If you have not gotten the KCT codes, kindly click on this link: https://tidrollover.ibedc.com/kctupgrade/, Input your meter number, and click on  “Get KCT,” and it will generate automatically. 
  2. You must load all the IBEDC tokens that you purchased previously before August 1, 2024, so that they won’t expire. After this period, your meter will reject all the tokens you purchased previously. Please be guided!

Fortunately, it doesn’t cost a dime to upgrade your prepaid meter. Upgrading the meter is absolutely necessary. So, you’re not expected to pay any money before you can upgrade your meter. Never pay anyone any money for a meter upgrade.

The codes that you can use to upgrade your IBEDC meter are KCT 1 and 2. There are usually two sets of 20-digit numbers. Once you enter them into your meter alongside the electricity token, your meter will upgrade automatically.
